As our first major bridge project, this concrete and steel bridge over the Massawippi River, at the south limit of Lennoxville, Quebec, established the foundation for our continuously growing bridge practice.

Spanning 550 feet over the Saint-François River in Sherbrooke, this new bridge stood as one of the longest reinforced concrete bridges in Quebec. Use of this material was an innovation in Canada at the time and a testament to the power of progress through design.

To address significant development within Sherbrooke, Quebec, we proposed a new steel and reinforced concrete structure over the Magog River. The bridge opened in 1954.

Built in 1965 across the St. John River in New Brunswick, the 600m bridge was part of the former Trans-Canada Highway network. Design brought an important regional connector still utilized today. (photo, 2015)

As the only crossing of the St. John River between Woodstock and the Mactaquac Hydro Dam in New Brunswick, this 380m bridge boasts a main span of 217m. The cable-stayed suspension design adds to the beauty of the surrounding landscape. (photo taken after 1967)

The Jackson Street bascule bridge, a vital crossing over the Des Plaines River, underwent major rehabilitation after 50 years of service. EXP developed an innovative two-piece girder design to eliminate fatigue-prone joints and bring even load distribution and long-term durability. This solution provided a cost-effective approach that improved structural integrity and extended the bridge’s operational life.

Located in Joliet, Illinois, the Jefferson Street bascule bridge spans the Des Plaines River and serves as a critical link between the community and its business district. Originally built in 1932, the 165-foot double-leaf rolling lift bridge required extensive modernization. EXP conducted a comprehensive field survey and delivered rehabilitation design for structural components, mechanical systems, and electrical controls. The redesign of the counterweight restored balance and reduced power usage by nearly 50%, while safety enhancements included a closed-circuit monitoring system and pier protection cell.

Design of this iconic new structure offers spectacular views of Coaticook Gorge and the Coaticook River in Quebec. At the time of construction it was the longest suspended pedestrian bridge in the world. To this day, it is still one of the longest suspended pedestrian bridges in North America. (photo, 2021)

Design of this unique bascule bridge in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, redefined movable bridge design with new innovations. With no counterweight and a very simple and unusual structural framing system, the bridge also featured state-of-the-art, computer-controlled hydraulic bridge drive and control systems.

Design of this five-span highway structure spans between Lemeque and Miscou Islands near Caraquet in New Brunswick. Three main spans are steel plate girders of 110m, 160m and 110m.

The Old Plank Road Trail (OPRT) Bridge carries a bicycle path and pedestrian walkway along an old, abandoned railway alignment across US Route 45 in Frankfort, Illinois. With a unique and visually striking design, the pedestrian bridge's defining structural feature is an 82-foot tall A-frame pylon with bestriding the highway at right angles.

Tubular steel frame design for one of only a handful of enclosed pedestrian bridges in Toronto. The bridge spans approximately 20 metres between two buildings, 4 metres in diameter and crosses about 10 metres above the road surface.

Designer of record for the new Juneau Avenue Vertical Lift Bridge and rehabilitation of the Wisconsin Avenue Vertical Lift Bridge in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Design of a new 4-span steel girder bridge with composite deck – spanning approximately 230 meters over the Saint John River and connecting the communities of Clair, New Brunswick, and Fort Kent, Maine. The intersection within Fort Kent’s Main Street marks the beginning of the 2,369-mile-long US Route 1, the longest north-south road in the US.
